Interface | Metaverse - Experiment in Art, Design & Technology
The workshop explored the term interface from the perspectives of art, digital media technologies, and experimentation. While commonly understood as the point of interaction between a user and a device, the term was examined in a broader context: a book, a game setup, a mirror, or even a character were considered as interfaces in an extended sense.
Traditional technical interfaces such as the remote control, computer mouse, and keyboard were discussed, alongside more recent developments like touch screens, mobile devices (e.g. smartphones, tablets), voice-controlled systems (Amazon Alexa, Google Smart Home, Apple Home Kit), Arduino/Raspberry Pi, as well as virtual and augmented reality headsets. These were explored as tools that connect us to the digital world.
The workshop topic "Interface | Metaverse – Experiment in Art, Design & Technology" was approached from three main perspectives:
- Digital media technologies: electronics, electrical engineering, Arduino/Raspberry Pi, 3D printing, hardware and software tooling, circuit bending, AR/VR
- Digital arts and experimentation: installation, interaction, sound, sculpture/object, space-time stage, speech and performance, motion capture & tracking, AR/VR
- Product and graphic design: design process (scribble, sketch, drawing), layout and poster, animation (2D/3D), storytelling – AR/VR
In addition, questions of meaning, aesthetics, usability, social integration, impact, and accessibility of the "Interface | Metaverse" were reflected upon and integrated into the project development process.
